Becoming a Leading National Museum in Digital Innovation

A 6 million USD project to develop digital content and strengthen the operational capacity of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, jointly implemented with KOICA, was launched on April 7, 2026.

The project on developing digital content and strengthening the operational capacity of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, with funding of 6 million USD to be implemented between 2026 and 2028, was officially launched on April 7, 2026.

The project will empower museum and sector personnel and provide training for museum staff in the Republic of Korea in areas such as the preservation, restoration, and registration of museum exhibits, as well as exhibition planning and implementation, education, marketing, and digital development.

Opening the project, the Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Academician S. Chuluun, stated in his speech that the project on developing digital content and strengthening the operational capacity of the museum, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, is the largest project being implemented in the humanities and cultural sector in Mongolia since 1990. He emphasized that it will play a significant role in bringing a relatively newly established museum like theirs to both international and regional levels. He considers that three major results will be achieved during the three years of project implementation. These include: first, it will play a special role in strengthening human resources; second, it will prepare content using modern digital technology to properly educate the public about cultural heritage; third, it will prepare specialized professionals to continue the project further. He also highlighted that within the framework of the project, not only the Chinggis Khaan National Museum but also other museums preserving cultural heritage, the Cultural Heritage Center, and research institutes will have their human resources strengthened.

KOICA Resident Representative in Mongolia Ju Hein Nan stated, "The main goal of our project is to develop digital content from exhibits from the third to ninth floors of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and strengthen the capacity of museum professionals."

Additionally, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum is working to establish a digital museum for children to bring cultural heritage to children in the most accessible and understandable way using modern technology.
